Big Cat Trends for Women

For autumn/winter 2012, the runways showed us a lot of cats. The lead role was reserved for the tiger, but the leopard made quite a lot of appearances, as well. It seems like a must to have at least one cat item in your closet this 2013 season. We’re not talking little, cute Persian cats here. No ma’am, we’re rolling with the big boys! The runways were full of predators such as tigers, leopards and panthers. Tigers adorned a multitude of garments on lots of different places, ranging from a large tiger across the chest to a small tiger on the knee and everything in between.

Of course, there is a plethora of options when it comes to combining one of these predator inspired-items with the other clothes in your closet. You could play it low-key and opt for some tiger accessories such as a tiger head-ring or a leopard print watch. These pieces are easy to combine and always a safe option. Moreover, accessories like these will stand the test of time so you will still get wear out of them years from now. When you are up for a risk, you could make a fashion statement in a tiger print sweater worn with jeans, or even better some black leather.

2013 Contrast Trends for Women

One of the trends which are easy for everyone to accomplish with things you already have in your closet is the contrast trend. Find out all about this trend and how to achieve the look below! For 2013, it’s all about mixing contrasting materials. Ever thought of mixing jersey with sequins, cotton with leather and even knits with lace? This is definitely the time to go for juxtaposition in materials. But actually it’s not only the materials which join in the fun, even the colors can be completely contrasting with the absolute favorite being black and white combinations. Take your cues from the runways with designers and brands such as 3.1 Philip Lim, Just Cavalli, Acne, and Stella McCartney all going for this trend. There are many ways to show off contrast.

As we’ve already pointed out, you can opt for contrasting fabrics within one garment, but you could further enhance the contrasting effect by going for contrasting colors too. For example, pair your favorite white jeans with a black blazer worn on top of a top with contrasting materials. With this trend, it is important to go all the way; it will only have an effect when you style your whole outfit around this theme. The ultimate contrast can be created when different fabrics and colors are used on one and the same garment.

Trends for Women – Yeehaw!

There’s a newfound appreciation for the Dallas-look. All of this because one designer decided to bring back country and this designer is Isabel Marant. How come we can speak of a trend when only one designer showed this look? Because Marant is just that influential. The cowboy boots that hit the runway were practically sold out before they even hit stores. She had bloggers all over the world reach out to their inner cowgirl and in their footsteps a lot of fashionistas follow.

Channel your inner cowgirl, dust off your cowboy boots or rather just buy a pair of Marant’s boots if you are lucky enough to find them. Pair them with suede breeches, a denim shirt or a saddle shirt and you’re good to go. Marant showed leather pants – some cropped and some of normal length – mainly in burgundy, black and grey. The saddle shirts came in colors such as burgundy, white and light pink and complete the look seamlessly. If you find a head-to-toe cowgirl look a bit too much, then opt for the Marant boots with plain denim and a basic t-shirt with a blazer.

Trends for Women – Architectural Shapes

The creativity of designers has virtually no limits. This season they have been bringing lots of architectural shapes which sometimes seem to be from outer space. We are talking lots of angles and sharp cuts here. And what’s more, we don’t only see clothes in this trend, plenty of shoes are rather special looking this season, too! What exactly is it designers do to achieve this special, otherworldly look? It can be big silhouettes, minimal decoration, sharp lines, unorthodox shapes, enormous shoulders, high-tech fabrics, padding in odd places and eye-catching colors.

It takes great skill to design these kinds of pieces; the clothes have to fit the body yet they often have a completely different shape. Especially the New York runways were filled with architectural shapes which will soon be hitting stores near you. With this look it’s all about less is more; let the garment do the talking without accessories or other embellishments. Get inspired by sleek NYC buildings, Lady Gaga or the runways from Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Acne, Martin Margiela or Hussein Chalayan. Process the looks in your head and come up with a way to incorporate architecture into your own style.

Trends for Women – Fit for a Queen

With this trend it’s like going back in time, back to an era where kings and queens ruled the world; their wealth shown in their clothes. To say this style is regal, sophisticated and attention-grabbing is an understatement. This trend is characterized by rich fabrics such as brocade and velvet with lots of gold, rhinestones and embellishments. Coats are often finished with (faux) fur; again displaying luxury. But what exactly is brocade? Although there is no clear-cut definition, you should look for rich fabrics with elaborate and ornate embroidery.

When you go shopping, think rich color palettes, contrasting gold brocade and fleur de lys motifs. Combine multiple royal-looking items together to reach the full effect. After all, it’s all about exuding luxury and wealth. No need to splurge on designer items, with this trend being that omnipresent on the autumn/winter 2012 runways, you will find plenty of items on the high street.

This trend was virtually all over the runways. With designers and brands such as Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, Louis Vuitton, Rebecca Minkoff, Proenza Schouler, Marchesa, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent and Jill Stuart you know it’s a trend! The clash between old world elegance and new world fashion is simply genius.

Women’s Holiday Party Outfits Fall/ Winter 2012 Collection

With the holiday season in full swing, you will need some festive outfits for all the parties marked in your calendar. Whether it’s an office party, family gathering or New Year’s Eve celebration, you want to look your best! When it comes to something suitable for a work affair, you can opt for a figure-hugging dress but leave the sequins out of the equation. A perfect option is a bandage dress; it hugs you in all the right places without being over the top.

When you have an event which calls for a cocktail dress; then this is the perfect chance to have some fun with your outfit. Think sequins, bright colors, sheer fabrics and legs for days! You could choose a strapless, sleeveless or backless dress and show off your favorite body part. Of course you can choose a nice and bright sequined dress, but as always there are more demure choices too, such as black or nude.

Have a high-impact gala to go to? Perhaps it’s something for charity or maybe a chic Christmas dinner… Then this is the perfect occasion for an evening gown! It would actually be inappropriate not to be decked out in your most gracious evening gown. And let’s face it girls, who doesn’t love the princess-like feeling you get when you get to wear a gown like this? Maybe it’s not about the gown alone, but also about the jewels and shoes you wear with them.

Fashion Trends for Women – Comic-Cosmic

Balenciaga was inspired by Blade Runner, we suggest you do the same! The action hero has made a huge comeback this season, resulting in futuristic shapes, lots of metallic and lots of figurative prints. You can take inspiration from pretty much anything going from sci-fi to comics and everything in between. There are subtle references like silver coated jeans or more direct references like a comic printed on a sweater or t-shirt.

Usually black is a really good color to use for the rest of your outfit. Whether you choose a galaxy print legging or a comic print sweater; if combined with basic black pieces your co(s)mic garment will pop exactly the way you want it to. When it comes to accessories, shoes and bags, you can be a little more playful. Look at the eye catcher of your outfit – i.e. your co(s)mic piece – and pick one of the colors used here. This way you could end up with silver shoes or a silver handbag; pieces which might be difficult to combine with any other outfit but go perfectly with this trend! For the comic trend, colors like yellow, blue, red, black and white will be the colors to look out for.
